19th Panhellenic Road Safety Week - Technical Training Centre (KETX) in Patras
As part of the 19th Panhellenic Road Safety Week, the Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas”, a partner of the METACITIES project, organised a dedicated dissemination and awareness activity for military personnel and conscripts of the Hellenic Armed Forces. The activity was delivered through a specialised Road Safety training programme at the Technical Training Centre (KETX) in Patras, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Defence and the Hellenic Army General Staff.
The initiative focused on one of the groups most vulnerable to road crashes—young drivers—and aimed to promote responsible driving attitudes, risk awareness, and safer mobility behaviours through an engaging, experiential learning approach. Participants attended interactive educational sessions combining multimedia presentations with hands-on demonstrations using specialised road safety simulators, including rollover and crash simulators, reaction time tests, alco-goggles, and digital exercises illustrating the consequences of impaired driving.
Within this context, RSI also disseminated the METACITIES project, showcasing how Horizon Europe research contributes to creating safer, smarter and more sustainable urban mobility ecosystems. The activity highlighted the role of digital innovation, intelligent transport solutions and citizen awareness in addressing road safety challenges and supporting the transition towards human-centred smart cities.
