At the 7th Conference on Sustainable Mobility (CSuM 2024), held from September 4–6 at Lake Plastira, Greece, MetaCities took centre stage through a presentation by Dr. Evi Faliagka from the University of Peloponesse. The paper, “Exploiting Digital Twins and Metaverse Technologies for the Digital Transformation of City Transportation,” showcased MetaCities’ innovative work in transforming urban mobility systems across South-Eastern Europe. Key use cases from Patras—such as smart parking, emergency management, and traffic incident analysis—demonstrated how MetaCities is leveraging digital twins and the metaverse to create smarter, more resilient cities.

The presentation highlighted the progress and objectives of the MetaCities Excellence Hub and gained significant interest from the nearly 250 conference attendees. This conference provided a valuable opportunity to share MetaCities’ vision for integrating cutting-edge digital technologies into urban environments, helping address climate change challenges and build more sustainable transportation systems.
