Inspiring the Next Generation through the 8th Panhellenic Student Digital Creation Competition for Road Safety

On 11 December 2025, the Road Safety Institute (RSI) “Panos Mylonas”, a partner of the METACITIES project, celebrated the winners of the 8th Panhellenic Student Digital Creation Competition for Road Safety during a special award ceremony held at the Book Tower Hall of the National Library of Greece, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens. The event brought together more than 150 students, teachers and distinguished representatives of public authorities and institutions from across Greece to recognise the creativity and innovation of young people in promoting safer mobility.

This year’s competition featured, for the first time, a dedicated “Smart Cities” category inspired by the Horizon Europe METACITIES project. Students were encouraged to imagine how digital technologies and innovative urban solutions could contribute to safer, smarter and more sustainable cities. Through original digital creations—including videos, animations, digital applications and multimedia presentations—they explored topics such as intelligent transport systems, digital innovation, sustainable mobility and road safety, demonstrating remarkable creativity and forward-thinking ideas.

During the award ceremony, RSI presented the objectives of METACITIES and highlighted how European research and innovation are supporting the development of next-generation urban environments that place citizens’ safety and well-being at their centre. The event provided an excellent opportunity to engage students, educators and families with the project’s vision while showcasing the important role of education and digital creativity in fostering responsible road users and future innovators.
