The METACITIES project was presented at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF-HELEXPO), taking place from 5–13 September 2026, through the participation of project partner Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas”.

R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” participated with a dedicated Road Safety awareness station, hosted at the exhibition area of the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. During the opening of the Fair, the station attracted strong public interest, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about Road Safety through a range of interactive and experiential activities.

As part of the Institute’s presence at the event, visitors were introduced to METACITIES and its vision for safer, smarter and more sustainable cities and regions. They had the opportunity to learn how the project brings together partners across South-Eastern Europe to explore the potential of Digital Twins and Metaverse technologies for addressing real-world urban challenges.

Visitors could also experience Virtual Reality applications focusing on the safe use of micromobility, explore key Road Safety topics, use educational simulators to better understand the risks associated with unsafe behaviours on the road, and test their knowledge through an interactive quiz on the Greek Road Traffic Code.

During the opening of the exhibition, Vassiliki Danelli-Mylonas, President of R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas”, accompanied by members of the Institute’s team, welcomed official guests and visitors to the Road Safety station.

The participation offered an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of METACITIES among the wider public and showcase how emerging digital technologies can contribute to creating more people-centred, safe and resilient urban environments.
