We are pleased to share that METACITIES was recently featured in the latest newsletter of our sister project, WATERWISE HUB!

The article highlights how the METACITIES Excellence Hub is accelerating digital transformation across Southeast Europe by supporting smart, connected, and resilient cities in Cyprus, Greece, and Bulgaria. Through the use of advanced technologies such as Digital Twins and Metaverse platforms, METACITIES promotes sustainable urban development aligned with the EU Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The newsletter showcases METACITIES’ approach to stakeholder engagement, based on the Quadruple Helix Innovation Model, which brings together academia, industry, government, and civil society. This collaborative model supports regional alignment of smart city strategies and helps tackle key urban challenges such as fragmented innovation and limited digital uptake in planning processes.

While water systems are not the core focus of the current pilots, the open Digital Twin framework developed by METACITIES presents opportunities for future integration of water management and circular economy use cases, with potential synergies with WATERWISE HUB and other initiatives in the smart urban domain.
