METACITIES Plenary Meeting in Nicosia
The METACITIES consortium successfully held its physical plenary meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 15–16 January 2026, hosted at the CYENS Centre of Excellence. The meeting brought together consortium partners for two days of in-depth exchange, coordination, and strategic planning.
Discussions focused on the overall progress of the project, with particular emphasis on project performance, key indicators, and the development of joint initiatives and future proposals. Partners presented ongoing technical developments and deliverables, complemented by exchanges around Proofs of Concept developed within the project.
A central part of the plenary was dedicated to impact creation, exploring how METACITIES results can be translated into tangible benefits for local and regional ecosystems. In this context, partners discussed the implementation of small-scale pilots, as well as the design and planning of large-scale pilots, ensuring scalability, replication potential, and long-term uptake of the project’s outcomes. The meeting also addressed strategic topics related to cross-border collaboration, stakeholder engagement approaches, and the business models of the pilot cases, including their evaluation, validation, and long-term sustainability.

In parallel with the plenary activities, the consortium had the pleasure of briefly meeting Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, in the context of the College of Commissioners’ visit to Cyprus.
The plenary concluded with a wrap-up session synthesising key outcomes and the shared commitment of all partners to strengthening innovation capacity, collaboration, and long-term impact in South-Eastern Europe.
