Public Event “Smart Parking and Urban Planning: Challenges and Prospects for Cyprus.”
The Cyprus Consumers Association, within the framework of the European project METACITIES, organized an online event on September 3, 2025, titled “Smart Parking and Urban Planning: Challenges and Prospects for Cyprus.”
The event focused on key issues related to the integration of smart parking technologies into the urban environment, the importance of urban planning for sustainable mobility and citizens’ quality of life, as well as institutional and policy initiatives that can strengthen urban resilience and innovation.
In addition, the aim of the event was to give the opportunity to highlight important gaps and problems identified in their districts, an area to which the Cy Cluster team of METACITIES will pay special attention throughout the implementation of the project.
During the event, the Cyprus Consumers Association also presented two videos it produced, focusing on smart parking and urban planning. Through dedicated presentations, the results of citizen responses to online questionnaires, developed by the Association during July-August 2025, were analysed. The questionnaires focused on smart parking and urban planning and collected a total of 203 anonymous responses.
A total of 40 participants attended the online event.

Explore the innovation of Smart Parking for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) through the use of a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tag, offered free of charge by the Municipality of Nicosia.
The BLE tag incorporates Bluetooth technology, enabling connection and recognition by the vehicle’s parking sensor used by PwD, ensuring optimal monitoring of correct parking space usage and preventing misuse.
