Successful Completion of the METACITIES Workshop: “Shaping the Future of Urban Planning in Cyprus”
The METACITIES project, in collaboration with the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, successfully held the interactive workshop “Shaping the Future of Urban Planning in Cyprus” on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, at the CYENS Centre of Excellence in Nicosia.
The event brought together municipal representatives, urban planners, researchers, and stakeholders to explore the two use cases of the METACITIES Cypriot cluster: Urban Heat Stress and Smart Parking. Participants had the opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by Cypriot cities and contribute valuable insights on how digital tools, such as the METACITIES Digital Twin platform, can support data-driven decision-making for more sustainable and livable urban environments.
Through open dialogue and interactive sessions, the workshop:
Presented the objectives and vision of the METACITIES European research project
Collected requirements and use-case scenarios directly from local authorities
Mapped the needs and expectations of municipalities
Emphasized the potential of smart technologies in shaping the future of urban planning in Cyprus
