Winter School on Metacities Vision: From Data to Digital Twins and Metaverse Technologies for Future Cities

The organizing committee of the Winter School “Metacities Vision: From Data to Digital Twins and Metaverse Technologies for Future Cities,” which is held as part of the Metacities Excellence Hub in South-Eastern Europe project, invites participants to join its activities. The event will take place on December 12th-13th, 2024, in collaboration with the University of Patras, the University of the Peloponnese, and other METACITIES partners (Hellenic American College, p-NET Emerging Networks & Verticals).

Objective of the Program:

This program, primarily aimed at students from the Departments of Electrical Engineering & Computer Technology at the University of Patras and Electrical Engineering & Computer Engineering at the University of the Peloponnese, seeks to provide exposure to and familiarize participants with the field of Smart Cities. It will focus on cutting-edge technologies as well as successful examples from the industrial sector and the market.

Speakers: Guest speakers from companies

Opportunities for Participants:

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Observe the journey of data (timeseries, images, videos, etc.) from its generation by sensors in a city, through cutting-edge networks, to the cloud where it is processed using advanced methods.
  • Gain foundational knowledge in networking, cloud engineering, IoT, and protocols like HTTP & MQTT.
  • Familiarize themselves with the concept and use of RESTful APIs.
  • Learn about the role of Fiware and its component functions, with a focus on the Orion Context Broker.
  • Implement a demo of creating virtual sensors and transferring data from virtual and real equipment to a user-facing application using Fiware.
  • Utilize timeseries analysis and prediction tools in the context of IoT.

Requirements for Participation:

  • A basic understanding of networking and computing.
  • Familiarity with Python 3 & Javascript.
  • Participants must bring their own laptops.

Certification and Hackathon:

  • A certificate of participation will be awarded to those who attend at least two sessions.
  • Participants will also be eligible to join a Hackathon on a related theme.

Special Note: All participants will receive commemorative gifts!
